Why We Made It: The Home Edit Luggage Collection

Welcome to Why We Made It—a series where we sit down with our Director of Product Development, Sumner Canfield, to learn more about our products and behind-the-scenes of how she creates them for our collection at Walmart. Sumner started at The Home Edit as a beloved organizer and over the years (7 to be exact!) she's become an absolute expert on finding the perfect solution for organizing awkward spaces and applying our organizing mindset to every area of your home and lifestyle.

Here, we caught up with her about the development process of our newest addition at Walmart—a 6-piece luggage collection that's been in the making for over a year. Have no fear Sumner is here to hook you up with the most organized luggage in the game!

Sumner Says

"Joanna and Clea are road warriors, traveling multiple times a week, so we're uniquely positioned to create luggage that has features we couldn't find anywhere else. For example, we added a duffle bag that snaps into our checked bag's interior. Fill it and pack it inside, or snap it out of the suitcase and slide its trolley sleeve over the suitcase handle to free up space inside. Attention shoppers, this one's for you!"

Sumner Says

"When you're traveling, there are some things that you want in easy reach, but that you don't necessarily need in your purse. We created this zip front pocket that holds your laptop and essentials. It has pockets within pockets to keep you organized on-the-go!"

Sumner Says

"We've got a trolley sleeve that slides over the handle of any size suitcase, plus the bottom of the sleeve zips, so it becomes a pocket when it's not in use.

Inside we have two zip mesh pockets and a padded area that can accommodate up to a 13-inch laptop. Our packing squares fit perfectly inside, and there's another pocket at the bottom for shoes, your toiletry case or dirty laundry."

Sumner Says

"What's awesome about these is that they're double-sided—the mesh side is for items you want to see and grab quickly, and the covered side is for delicates and unmentionables.

We also have a compression zipper. Our recommendation is to pack them with the zipper open, then when you go to put them in the bag, zip it up to save even more space."

Sumner Says

"A lot of hanging toiletry bags have zippers that go all the way down the compartments, and then if you hang them up your stuff flies everywhere. Not on my watch!

Ours has a dry privacy compartment, two wet compartments and a mesh compartment, plus it comes with three travel toiletry containers labeled with Clea's handwriting. This pup can fit a lot!"

Sumner Says

"Your bag will stand out in the crowd with our airplane cut-out luggage tag, but the best part is that it's magnetic to double as a hat clip. It's a win, win."
